This is the third incarnation of what was once kingston's flagship flash drive. This version has a full metal body and comes with a retractable head, an improvement over the G2. In terms of speed the drive has strong sequential headline figures but they are not chart topping by any means. The 4K random write scores are very disappointing, surprisingly they even lag the older G2. We don't think the G3 makes a lot of sense at its current price of £50. As other manufacturers release their second and third gen. drives, there will be far better deals to be had later on this year. At the moment the brand new Corsair GT Turbo looks like it might be a contender but the sure thing is the chart busting Sandisk Extreme which redefined 4k random write speed expectations. The 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT is an above average performer. With burst sequential read/write speeds of 130/24 MBps the GT has a reasonable large file performance profile. The GT clocked in an effective speed of 73.6 MB/s which puts it amongst the top 25% of 16GB USB 3.0 flash drives. The peak small file 4K read/write speeds of 18.8/0.93 MBps demonstrated by our four samples are remarkable. These speeds mark the Voyager GT as the fastest 4K reader and the fourth fastest 4K writer amongst all the 16GB flash drives we have tested to date, a very impressive result. [Feb '14USBFlashPro]
We highlight the best USB flash drive in terms of balanced performance and value for money using current prices, sequential read, sequential write , 4k read and 4k write speed. The speeds are combined to form a single effective speed which measures performance for tasks such as copying photos, music and videos. Effective speed is adjusted by current price and capacity to yield value for money. Finally thousands of individual user ratings are used to validate our benchmark figures. [USBFlashPro]
